Artificial intelligence threatens the world of mass unemployment

12:33, 22-02-2016

Rapid progress in the development of artificial intelligence and robotics threaten world mass unemployment, which will affect everyone - from car drivers to sex workers, according to the report of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, who has studied the newspaper Financial Times (FT).

"We are approaching the time when machines will surpass human in almost any problem - said Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Rice Moshe Vardi. - Society must answer this question before the encounter with him, if the machines are able to do almost any kind of work for the people, then what will be engaged in people? "

"Banal answer is that we will be able to dedicate time to yourself. But I do not find the prospect of life in an attractive leisure. I believe that the work is essential to human well-being ", - said Vardi.

"Artificial intelligence is quickly moving from research to the real world", - says professor of computer science at Cornell University Bart Selman. - Computers are beginning to hear and see a person. The systems can work independently and move among us. "

According to Zelman, companies such as Google, Facebook, IBM and Microsoft are investing billions of dollars annually in the development of artificial intelligence systems. He participated in the preparation of an open letter to the Institute for the Future at the University of Cambridge, which calls on politicians to explore all the risks associated with the development of intelligent machines.

One of the fastest growing areas of computer intelligence is a computer vision and recognition of facial features, says the FT.

«Facebook can recognize faces is better than any of us," - says Zelman.

Machine vision is the key to the creation of an unmanned vehicle, which, as scientists predict, may appear on the roads in the next 25 years. According to Professor Vardi, automated driving will reduce the number of accidents by 90% or even more.

"With so many lives saved, of course, it is difficult to oppose the development of computers - he argues. - That menee about 10% of all jobs in the US are related to the management of transport. And most of these will disappear. "
